Blender 3D's City Generator

I've been on a search for a procedural city generator and I found a free one. This is a big deal because a lot of these softwares run $5K to $25K! You'll typicall see their renders in movies. Procedural software creates and randomizes items like buildings, plants, people, etc. This one needs to run through blender (yet another 3D application but a free one). I'll be hitting up my buddy Ian for help big time here. But here is an early render of a basic cityscape.

Jin Cel Shaded

Finally! I came across the right Lightwave 3D article telling me how to fix the Jagged Edges when rendering. So here was the problem, when I rendered a Cel Shaded image, I couldn’t figure out how to make the line-work look smoother. It finally occurred to me that this is much like Photoshop’s "Ant aliasing" setting. From there I was able to get this setting turned on and now the black lines look smooth. So, I’m getting there.

Grave of the Fireflies

This movie was a must see for me. It takes place during WWII in Japan. Quite sad but well written and directed by Studio Ghibli.

SWAT Guy

This drawing is of a SWAT officer that I wanted to create for a shirt that we are making for the business. However, I think I want more of a aggressive looking dude with his gun pointing slightly off to the side but aiming at something. I think it may look cooler. We'll see but it was fun making this one

Park Scene

This picture is of a park in North Korea. Not much to say about it other than it will be used for a background in my story. Jin and her brother will stop here when confronted by some angry class-mates on their way home from school. Further in the background you’ll see people walking up and down the path. For this image, again I used Photoshop CS and my Wacom tablet (I love this thing). The cool thing about Photoshop is that it allows me to experiment with painting and nothing is ever really final.

This Pic has taken a few weeks and is the most detailed scenery picture I've ever done. I made it purely in Photoshop CS using my Wacom tablet. This image is to be the opening scene of Jin looking out on P'yongyang North Korea. I wanted to make this a very colorful scene to contrast the later dark and grim scenes of the Northern Province. At some point I imagine, I'll animate this scene with the camera panning from left to right and the clouds moving with Jin standing on the far right with an over the shoulder camera angle. I must say, I wanted to put this one aside several times due to the detail but I wanted it to be a high-res picture so that it’ll look good from any level of zoom. I sill want to add more atmosphere with fog and depth of field but I'll get to that later. Frank

The New Jin

It’s been a while. I’ve been working on a lot of other things but have finally gotten back into what I love to do most. This is a revised and updated picture of Jin. She is much different than the images from 2007. I think I like this much better. This pic will be my new format for modeling her. I’m going to move away from my previous model and use a new one. More on that to come.

Hi,

Here are some new screen shots of Jin. She is coming along quite well. I have completed just about all of the modeling and now have begun to learn "Rigging". More to come.
